First of all we should know “What is Google’s self-driving ?”.
The Google Self-Driving Car is a project by Google which aims to establish technology for autonomous cars.After starting number of projects, Now Google come up with a new project based on autonomous cars.
This project,if survive it will effect the automobile industry very heavily,some researchers say it will cut down the manufacturing about 40% and this is very large percentage.Concept of Self driven cars are seen potentially safer than human drivers, as they will not drink and drive and will not take a nap during driving.

1. It’s an Electric Vehicle:
Google’s Self-Driving Car falls under the category of battery operated vehicles.Obviously these are more towards green side that is eco-friendly vehicles.On full charge it can run for 100 miles.It runs very smooth and less noisy then any other battery operated vehicle,thanks to Google engineers for innovative effort.We can also say that they are far better than typical cars using fuels for public transport.
2. It is intelligent and smart:
- Google’s Self-Driving Car new project is more intelligent and smart.It is equipped with more sensors,radars and camers.Picture of car shows, there is a instrument on top of the car, it is laser sensor which can scan object around the car by rotating 360 degree.This laser sensor have higher range and resolution.
- At the front there is nose like radar which measure the speed of car.An orientation sensor is also at the front (position is unknown) which functions is to track the car motion and balance.one more sensor on wheel hub calculate the rotations of wheel.All these sensors are send their data to processor which further give a way or behavior to car.
- Google’s Self-Driving Car is smarter enough to change the path to destination if there will be more traffic on road with the help of maps.These maps are installed in car for particular area.The car will not able to drive itself on non-mapped areas.
3. Aims for safety:
Humans are terrible drivers.We humans just don’t drive our vehicles carefully.Using mobile phones and gadgets while driving ,just don’t care about the traffic rules.Google’s Self-Driving Car project main aim is to provide safety for peoples.Google engineers have designed it with flexible windscreen and foam front bumper.If it will hit something front bumper has tendency to absorb the impact of collision.It will not equipped with air-bags.
Don’t worry about the safety of passengers,as it will not run very fast,Slow is safe(less impact force and more time to react). Google’s Self-Driving Car are limited to a maximum speed of 40 kph (25 mph).It means it will run on local roads or low speed limit roads.
4. Design like human face:
Most interesting thing about Google Self-Driving Car is, it seems like a human face smiling at you when you see the car from the front side.Humans who are the part of testing of Google Self-Driving Car express their experience of watching it,they said car is very cute like a toy.Human like face design made by Google designers in order to create pleasant and friendly behavior towards the traffic.Also,Car is very compact in size.
5. It is Two-seater and don’t have steering & pedals:
- Google Self-Driving Car is packed with only two seats(with seat-belts),Generally sports car are Two-seater cars.But don’t worry about space in it,Google Self-Driving Car have enough space for your dog,few shopping bags.And also it is very comfortable to sit in.While traveling in it ,you can drink some stuff as it also contains cup-holders.
- Google Self-Driving Car doesn’t equipped with accelerator pedal, brake pedal and not even steering wheel.We cannot imaging a car without steering wheel and pedals,this is the first time in automobile industry.But it have something new that is Start and Stop buttons as shown in picture below.
6. It undergoes 11 crashes in testing:
Did you know how Google’s Self-Driving Car perform in testing in public roads.According to the Google,their 23 self-driving cars have been involved in 11 minor accidents in last 6 years,when testing on public roads.Accidents occurs not because of car’s fault ,it is the Google Chauffeur(software powering Google’s cars) who is responsible for it. Google engineers are working on it,will soon overcome the challenging situation.
7. It is a prototype model:
Google’s Self-Driving Car is prototype project which mean it is a early sample before release of product in order to test it in real life situations.So you cannot buy Google’s Self-Driving Car.According to Google,this prototype project first will test for closed areas then to public roads at the end of year.
